What "Closeout" Means and Why It Suits a School Santa Shop

Closeout gifts are new, first-quality products bought at the end of a line. Here is why they cost less and what that means for your Santa shop.

"Closeout" worries some first-time buyers. It should not. A closeout is a new product that a maker or distributor has stopped producing or wants to clear. We buy the remaining stock, and you pay less for it.

Why closeouts cost less

The seller wants the space, so the price drops. Nothing is wrong with the product. That is how a gift that once sold for several dollars can sit on a Santa shop table at a price a child can pay.

The trade-off: when it is gone, it is gone

A closeout line is not reordered. If a gift sells out, we usually cannot get more. That has two consequences for a Santa shop:

  • Order early. Stock is shared with every school we serve.
  • Do not plan the whole shop around one item. Spread your order across several gifts for each person.

Why this suits a Santa shop

Children shop with pocket money. Low prices matter more than having this year's newest product. A closeout pen, mug or key chain that says "Mom" or "Grandpa" is exactly what a seven-year-old is looking for.
